History of Historic Norwayne
Norwayne began as working-class housing—small homes built quickly to support wartime and postwar industry. Tight blocks, narrow streets, and close-knit neighbors defined the early years.
Over time, economic shifts, policy decisions, and disinvestment left many homes aging and many residents struggling. Properties fell into the hands of absentee landlords, repairs were deferred, and families faced instability.
Yet Norwayne remains home to long-time residents, young growing families, and people deeply committed to this place. Any future for Norwayne must remember who built it, acknowledge harm, and center the people who stayed.
Norwayne CLT is one attempt to write the next chapter in a way that honors all of that.
