About the Norwayne Historic District Community Land Trust
Our Story & Mission
Norwayne CLT grew out of a simple recognition: housing stability is the foundation for everything else—health, school performance, mental wellness, neighborhood safety, and economic mobility.
We exist to preserve and create permanently affordable housing in the Historic Norwayne neighborhood while honoring its history and strengthening the lives of the people who call it home.
Why a Community Land Trust?
A Community Land Trust (CLT) separates land ownership from home use:
- The land is held in trust by a nonprofit for community benefit.
- Homes are rented (or eventually owned) at prices meant to stay affordable.
- Surplus revenue is reinvested in the neighborhood, not extracted as profit.
CLTs have been used nationwide to slow displacement and stabilize communities facing speculation.
