Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this public housing?

No. Norwayne CLT is a nonprofit community land trust. We may partner with public agencies, but the CLT itself is a community-rooted, mission-driven nonprofit—not a government housing authority.

Will my rent still go up?

Our goal is stability. Over time, we limit rent increases so they track actual changes in costs like property taxes and required fees—not market speculation or landlord profit.

Who qualifies to live in a CLT home?

We prioritize low- to moderate-income residents with strong ties to Historic Norwayne. Specific eligibility criteria will be posted as homes come online.

Is this the same as buying a home?

No. Our initial focus is on high-quality, stable rental housing. Over time, we may explore limited-equity ownership pathways if they align with long-term affordability goals.

How is this funded?

Through charitable donations, grants, and eventually modest rental income that is reinvested into maintenance, new homes, and community projects. We do not exist to generate profit for distant shareholders.

How can I get involved if I don’t need housing?

You can support as a donor, partner organization, volunteer, or future board member. See our For Donors & Partners page or contact us directly.
